CYCAD FAIR – BRITS

7 TO 8 NOVEMBER 2009

Many of these plants have attained a diameter of 200mm or more – suckers have not been removed – up to nine suckers per plant. Prices from R200-R500 per cm.

Average size 200mm already suckering – suckers not removed. These plants are not far off coning. Planted as 1 leaf seedlings in Nov 2001.

More than 200 plants – 20 Kaapschehoop locality seed grown plants already exceeding 200mm diameter. A beautiful Tugela Ferry laevifolius with a diameter of 225mm plus plants
from 5 other localities.

More than 100 plants with a diameter of between 150-200mm. Some of these plants have as many as 10 suckers. Every single plant has been grown from seed and has already been potted for more than two years. 350 smaller plants also available. Prices vary between R100 and R400 per cm.

Also very rare and beautiful African species including equatorialis, bubalinus and pterogonus. Also some very beautiful mature laurentianus, munchii and septentrionalis.

ART EXHIBITION
Some very rare and beautiful cycad art will be on display. Primarily this exhibition will revolve around 45 years of involvement with cycads by the world renowned cycad artist and author Douglas Goode. Certain original pieces will be on sale as well as numbered and signed copies of certain of these works of art as well as cycad posters. The works of 4 other cycad artists will also be on display.

BOOK EXHIBITION
A very unique collection of very rare cycad books dating back to 1907.

PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION
See some very rare footage of cycads in habitat and cultivation. You will see photos of plants in habitat that have not been described yet.

BOOK LAUNCH – “SNEAK PREVIEW”
Exclusive : Come and get a sneak preview of the book “Cycad Madness” co-authored by Douglas Goode and Steve Trollip. Extensively illustrated by Douglas Goode, the book offers a peek into the cycad industry, it’s heroes and it’s villains. Who knows -  if you’ve been involved with cycads for many years – you may just feature in this book!!
